Comparing Horror Trailers

I want to compare horror trailers of the same film. I want to pick out the differences and the similarities. Even when having the same script I want to see how the filming style may have changed.

Friday the 13th is about a boy who drowned in a lake while attending a summer camp. His mother blamed the camp guardians due to the fact that they should have been watching the children properly. Because of this tragedy the mother of the child Mrs Voorhees started to murder the new councillors for reopening the camp. We later find out that her son is still alive and he is involved in the murders too.

Friday 13th 1980
  • The 1981 filming style is different, because the director chooses to show less of the criminal.
  •  The trailer is more designed to make people jump and not be able to predict what’s going to happen next.
  •  The effects are low technology based and they are quite simplistic.
  • The director chose to keep the criminal as a point of view shot; he based this method on Alfred Hitchcock’s voyeurism.

Friday 13th 2009
  •   The camera style is clearer, and the director wants to show the murderer instead of  keeping him behind the camera.
  •    The film focuses more on blood and gore.
  •    The effects are better in the 2009 version than the 1980s version.
  •    The music is different it’s more a play on the straining effect than an evil piano play.
