Murderers in Horror movies are usually the ones that you least suspect (or if not, they are not seen at all or are already the murderer for the purpose of the film), scary (due to their costumes or if their face is disfigured). They are usually they way they are because of maybe how the victims may have behaved with the murderer. They're attitude is bad due to childhood traumas or cult brainwashing.
The main character often aspires to defeat the villain in the story but sometimes that doesn’t always happen. This is usually the main storyline for a horror movie murders either getting caught by the police or getting killed by the hero. Looks are quite important when casting this part but sometimes that can be managed by makeup artists who work with in prosthetics, but the costumes they wear are a part in how to make someone look like a murderer.
